Two parts raucous hootenanny, one part spiritual jubilee (with the Book Of Garth as the hymnal) this third in a series of five shows at the Greensboro Coliseum was a celebration of all things good in the world.
Very uplifting vibe throughout the building and surrounding counties. Thank you Mr Brooks for putting on a big show.. my entire family had a blast. So did the other 20,000 or so in attendance..
As probably the only person in the building - well, besides my teenage daughters - who didn't the know the words to even one song he played, I was blown away by the intensity of the crowd response ...
heck, I only really recognized ONE song all night. That would be the Friends In Low Places. Anyway, outside of a Phish show, and then maybe Bruce, I can't recall another performer I've seen who motivates their audience to participate so enthusiastically in creating the mojo. It surprises me as to why their aren't any Garth Brooks shows here on Dime... he isn't on the NAB, but there's nothing from this new tour ?
What gives ?
The recording turned out a very honest capture of the show as I had a good spot upstairs on the aisle of my row.. minimal noise outside of the sound of the crowd on all the singalongs, and there were a ton.
The sound in the coliseum wasn't so great, but I wasn't expecting it to sound good in there ... it's certainly hard to dial in the pedal steel and fiddle in such I big gym. The last couple of songs were recorded from a little lower in the section I was in as we needed to make a quick exit. You'll be able to hear the difference as it got much boomier just a few rows lower. I've included several pictures that my daughter took from
her seat (we had to get three pairs and she got the long straw) and then one from my seat upstairs... if there are cover art artist out there, please and thank you.
As always, please feel free to share this with anyone you'd like, re-edit the sound, or convert to whatever file format that suits you. And of course, it's really bad karma to sell this to anyone, so don't even think about it !
